How To Afford To Look Stylish...

Right now (as a high school student), the only money I have is the monthly 'pocket' money I'm given by my parents, as well as occasional other money from my Grandma (I also get some extra money for meals out with friends) (this sounds like I do have enough money to buy new clothes frequently but I don't!). Each month I get given £30, and even though it sounds like enough to buy new clothes every month (which it is), after all the birthdays I'm left with hardly anything....:( So, how can you afford to be stylish?

Rule 1:

Get the basics. This is key in looking stylish everyday, and it will cut your cost down! I have done 2 other posts on the fashion basics for women and men please check them out (they'll help you a lot). If you have the fashion basics in your wardrobe, then all these items of clothing can be mixed up to make different outfits whereas some other clothes will only look good with certain things. For example, say you have an amazing shirt (male or female), and it looks incredible but you can only wear the shirt with one pair of jeans or trousers? This makes looking stylish more costly as you'll have to buy more clothes so that you have different outfits that work well together whereas getting simple styles can benefit your look massively, by giving you more options to wear each item or accessory.

Rule 2:

Work out what you want to buy and then keep the money separate. When I see a new coat or new shoes, I work out how much everything I want to get is, and then when I get my money, I keep say £15 separate so that I know I can buy those things. Otherwise you could spend it all without knowing when your out with friends on things that wont benefit you as much, so keep whatever cash your using to purchase your new clothes, separate.

Rule 3:

Only buy the things that suit you and you'll wear quite a lot. There's no point in buying a coat that doesn't look good on you and you know you wont wear much. Remember, your reading this so that you can buy more clothes more regularly, so don't waste your money on things that you wont use, just think that you'll be able to buy gorgeous new clothes that will make you look stylish and on trend.

Rule 4:

Invest in accessories! Accessories can change someone's outfit incredibly, and a plain shirt with dark skinny jeans and boots, will look even better with a good scarf! I tend to buy more simple items of clothing, I don't tend to go for clothes that have really bright colours (basically really extravagant clothing). I prefer to dress in casual-smart clothes, but add accessories. Recently I went out to a friends birthday meal, I dressed in slim-fit jeans, tan leather Chelsea boots, a thin white knitted-look jumper with a dark blazer on top. I'm not a vain or a self-obsessed person but I think everyone should be able to say that their outfit looked great, and what I thought would add greatly to the outfit would be a plain grey scarf, simply draped over my shoulders, nothing fancy but I was complimented on my outfit during the meal and the same could happen to you! Look for simple accessories like plain coloured scarves, modern watches and other modern wrist-wear, chunky or plain necklaces as well as any other accessories that you like. Just make sure that they will go with your wardrobe first.

Rule 5:

Don't shop for designer stuff! It sounds silly but some people do think this will allow them to shop at expensive stores, it wont! To afford to shop regularly (when you don't have a high income) you need to stick to high street stores, which in my opinion are just as good if not better (in their own way) (designer stores are still something I love).


Those are my 5 main rules for affording to buy new clothes regularly, I'm sure there could be more but I think these are the most effective and important ways of affording to shop. Beautiful England…

My new blogging timetable says that I post only on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. But! Every so often (like today) I might do a very small post on whatever inspires me to write a random post :)

Today, the weather has been amazing! And I thought that I could prove to you that English weather is not all rain and cold as I have written a blog post about English stereotypes not long ago, so please check that out as I'm sure it'll be fun for others to hear what stereotypes are true and which are false! 

This isn't going to be a long post, I just wanted to post a few photos of my back garden and how the gardens look so nice in this kind of weather! (effects have been used - obvs!)

My Favourite Fashion Brands-Part 3!

My third and final favourite fashion brand is…Burberry. I love this brand because the clothes they make are really good quality, and even though they have unique designs, the products they sell are wearable for every day life. 

Burberry was founded in 1856 and yes, it's another English fashion brand (I know all the brands are English, it's not on purpose though!). Burberry has become world famous for its classic items like the well-known trench coat. 

Burberry make all aspects of fashion as well as having their own beauty ranges including make up and fragrances. I'm a fan of their fragrances as I was given one as a present.  

Burberry, like Mulberry is a very interesting brand. The Burberry flagship store in London is known for its recent renovation to look more like its website and is known as Burberry world live (I've read that you don't queue when you buy something there). 

This brand has been worn by many celebrities and is a popular British Fashion label although it has been labeled as a 'chavvy' brand (English slang) but for me, Burberry is a luxury English fashion brand. 

I love this company because of its fashionable simplicity. The clothes and accessories are stylish and unique but are also clothes that almost anyone can wear. I love watching their runway shows online as they are alway so beautiful and I love looking through the website as they sell so many beautiful items. I do own a t-shirt from Burberry because I went to an outlet of theirs whilst there was a reduced stock rail and I was lucky enough to get an item of clothing. The t-shirt is a gorgeous red with the brands logo on the front in a contrasting yellow colour. Another reason I love this brand is because of how nice their staff are. I must say I've been in some designer shops and I've been shocked by the service I've received and sadly this has stopped me going back to those shops, but every Burberry store I have been in, the staff have been lovely and treated every customer with respect and this is such an important thing as I now look forward to going in every amazing store.

My Favourite Fashion Brands-Part 2!

My second favourite fashion brand is one that again, I greatly admire. This brand is…Alexander McQueen. This is a company I love because of the incredible designs and collections. 

Like Mulberry AQ (I'm going to abbreviate it as its a long name) is a British fashion company founded by Alexander McQueen himself. 

The brand was founded in 1992 by the late British designer himself and has since rose to fame because of its unconventional and creative designs. The brand itself has been involved in a number of controversies and I would like to say that I am a fan of this brand for their designs and creativity only and have only recently read about the problems the brand has faced. 

AQ designs/outfits are well known for their individual style and I love how different they are. Pictures of the runway collections show incredible outfits and clothing that I myself have been in awe at. Again, I'd like to include pictures of these stunning collections but I'm not sure whether I can so I would encourage you to google these collections and try to find pictures or news articles on them. 

The brand is very well know for its scarves and they have since become world famous for their distinctive design. 

McQueen scarves are plainly coloured (no rainbow scarves) but include a pattern of the trademark logo skulls all over. These scarves have been seen on many celebrities in different countries. Like a Mulberry bag, owning an AQ  scarf is pretty much on my bucket list. 

This brand creates pretty much all aspects of fashion…including menswear (Yay! :D) and uses so many different materials in their clothing. Similar to Mulberry AQ has very unique runway shows and like Mulberry, I would love to attend one!
