I Heart New York

Today's post is gonna be a little be different as it's my very first book review! I haven't got any experience with book reviews so bare with me for the moment - practise makes perfect 'nd all that ;)

For Christmas my brother kindly bought me three books from the I heart series by Lindsey Kelk. The first in the series, I heart New York, I recently finished reading. Since starting the book, I haven't been able to put it down. It's everything I want and look for in a story and I was thrilled to discover this frankly immense series ;D

I first discovered the author Lindsey as well as her book series, I heart, on a leaflet in a goodie bag I bought whilst at the the clothes show live. I love New York City, so anything and everything which involves New York immediately grabs my attention! Seeing as the first book is I heart New York, I was an eager beaver to sit down with a cuppa' and crack it open.

The story follows the life of Angela Clarke, a twenty something children's book writer from London, who after discovering her boyfriend cheating on her at her best friends wedding and finding out that all of her friends knew about it (including the bride and groom), does what any of us would have done; broke the grooms hand with a Louboutin shoe, made the bride burst into tears on the 'happiest' day of her life, and runs away to New York City.

Finally having arrived in the city that never sleeps, Angela finds herself at a hotel called The Union, where she immediately befriends the concierge/life coach/aspiring new Oprah...Jenny. After bringing copious amounts of food and drink to her room, Jenny decides to introduce Angela to the glamour and excitement of New York life, whilst also introducing her to a few friends of hers, Erin, Vanessa and Gina. Angela quickly becomes accustomed to her new lifestyle, with Starbucks, Bloomingdales and a new do' all working together to create a new and improved Angie. Jenny soon takes Angela to see the Statue Of Liberty, where she reveals that LA is where people go to find themselves, whereas New York is the place to be to become someone new. And with Angela's last 10 years being as it was, she is immediately attracted to this idea of becoming someone new and throws herself in at the deep end of New York life. Which includes, of course, dating.

Within no time at all, Angela meets Tyler. A wealthy banker who seems to be the answer to every girls dreams. However her life is soon turned upside down when she meets another guy, Alex, who's the lead singer of a band she likes. Torn between two perfect guys, Angela ventures through date after date before finally deciding who the love of her life is. Then, to add to all the craziness in her life, Angela has her big break, and gets her dream job of writing her own original pieces. After being introduced to Jenny's friend Erin, a PR pro, she has a meeting with the force-to-be-reckoned-with editor of Look magazine, Mary, where she gains the role of writing a daily blog entry (for The look website) of her life which includes her thoughts, feelings and dating life with the suitably named wall street (Tyler) and Brooklyn (Alex) being the main features.

Overall, I heart New York is a fantastic read. Upbeat, fun and it always had my attention. I couldn't be happier that I've found this series as well as the author, Lindsey Kelk, and am now nearly half way through the sequel, I heart Hollywood! You can find Lindsey's website HERE and HERE's the link to the book on Amazon :)
